Our mission

Preparedness for every body.

Feeling safe in an emergency should not depend on your age, your ability, your language, or your income.

Most emergency preparedness advice is written for one imaginary person: able-bodied, no dependents, plenty of money, a car in the driveway. That is not most of us.

Real households have an infant who needs formula when the power is out. An elder with a walker who cannot manage a generic evacuation route. A family member whose sensory needs get harder, not easier, in chaos. A dog who is family. Someone whose medical equipment simply cannot be unplugged.

Stay Ready Preps starts from those households — seniors, people with disabilities, and anyone standard advice tends to skip — instead of treating them as footnotes. Every household is different, so every kit should be too.

Preparedness is not one size fits all. It never was. We are here to change that.
What we stand for

Five things we will not compromise on.

Design for the margins

If a plan works for the person with the most barriers, it works for everyone. So that is who we design for first.

Dignity in a crisis

Emergencies are hard enough. Everyone deserves to face one with their comfort, privacy, and routines intact.

No budget left behind

Every single recommendation has a budget option. Safety is not a luxury item.

Plain language

You should not need a certification to understand a checklist. We write the way people actually talk.

Community first

Prepared neighbors make a prepared block. The safest thing in an emergency is the people next door.

Credentials

Who is behind this.

Stay Ready Preps is run from Oakland, California by a CERT-certified volunteer trained through both the Oakland and Albany programs, with nearly thirty years of work in nonprofits and food security — a career spent on exactly this question: how do you get essential things to the people the system tends to miss? We are based in Oakland and serve the East Bay, and work with households anywhere over video.

We are a small operation on purpose. No warehouse, no sales team, no fear-mongering. Just practical guidance, honest recommendations, and free tools for anybody who needs them.

How we pay for it

Some product links on this site are Amazon affiliate links, which means we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only link to gear we would keep in our own home, and every category includes a budget option. Readiness audits and community workshops are our other source of income.
